The PhilDev Science and Engineering Scholarship Program helps high achieving Filipinos who are in need of financial support in pursuit of their technical education. The goal of the program is to produce a higher ratio of qualified science and engineering experts and practitioners in the Philippines. As of the present, the program has already given over 100 students on PhilDev-Shell and PhilDev-Goldilocks scholarship grants. The PhilDev Science and Engineering Scholarship Program provides more than funding.
The program offers the scholars access to mentors, coaching and counseling for concerns outside of their studies, and guidance with internship and job placement. The scholars also participate on an annual summer retreat, where they gather for a 3 day teaching and learning event, and share skills in both individual and team settings, work on real world problems, learn critical career skills like resume writing and public speaking, and also, are given the chance to consult gray areas with the attending experts.
The scholarships are funded by donors (companies, non-profits, organizations or individuals) and administered by PhilDev S&T Foundation – Manila. Currently, PhilDev is extremely proud to have Shell as the program’s first donor.
The PhilDev Program Officers meet regularly with students to mentor and guide them through their university years. Soon, the scholars will also be paired with a mentor from the donor organization that could give them more advice on their chosen profession and potential opportunities.
The organization brings together government organizations, the academe and the private industry to help build a robust science and technology environment that values creativity, curiosity by channeling significant investment in STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Mathematics) innovation and entrepreneurship.
