The A Better Chance Foundation believes in every child’s potential and dream. They created scholarship programs for the poor that would be appropriately suited to their living conditions, such as the Night High School Scholarship Program, and the College Scholarship Program.
In SY 2001-2002, ABC Foundation started its Scholarship Program with the Educational Research Development Assistance (ERDA) Foundation by sponsoring 29 pre-school classes, or 1,015 scholars around Metro Manila and other provinces.
In S.Y. 2002-2003, ABC Foundation started its partnership with Siena College, Taytay, Rizal by sponsoring 40 scholars under their Night High School Scholarship Program.
In S.Y. 2007-2008, the first Night High Class at Siena College, Taytay, Rizal graduated from their 5-year scholarship program, and to help them further, ABC Foundation launched its College Scholarship Program to sponsor bright Night High graduates to any state university/college of their choice.
The Foundation, in cooperation with the government and other learning institutions as well as in collaboration with targeted families and communities, aims to provide financial assistance to economically challenged but properly motivated children to enable them to pursue quality preschool, elementary, secondary as well as college education.
Night High School Scholarship Program
The foundation sponsors the 6 year Night High School Scholarship Program with partner schools Sienna College, Taytay, Rizal, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, Quezon City, and St. Dominic Academy in Pulilan, Bulacan.
The program provides an opportunity for the financially challenged 6th grade graduates to attain quality secondary education from a private institution like the Sienna College.
Night High scholars are selected from applicants residing in communities adjacent to Siena College, Taytay, Quezon City, San Jose del Monte, and Pulilan, Bulacan. Posters are placed throughout the communities inviting drop-outs or potential drop-outs to attend testing at the school.
They must first pass an entrance exam similar to the one given to regular paying students. Once they pass the entrance exam, they are then interviewed.
After the applicant and their parents are interviewed, a social worker visits their home and community to verify their economic status. Only after the applicant passes this 3-step process can he/she qualify to be a Night High Scholar.
Night High classes are from 3:30 in the afternoon to 8:30 at night. Since the total daily hours of study are less than the standard day time class hours, the program has been designed as a 6-year course.
It costs P3,500.00 to sponsor one Night High Scholar for one year in Siena College, Taytay, Quezon City, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, St. Dominic Academy, Pulilan, Bulacan, and St. James Academy, Plaridel, Bulacan.
This amount covers their uniforms and books, tuition fees and miscellaneous expenses such as field trips and laboratory fees.
