Linux Foundation LiFT Training Program | Philippine Scholarship

Linux Foundation LiFT Scholarship

The Linux Foundation training (LiFT) program provides advanced open source training to existing and aspiring IT professionals from around the world who might not have the means for specialized training. LiFT aims to increase diversity in open source technology by providing access to online and in-person training and certification exams for underserved demographics at no cost to the recipient. Since 2010, The Linux Foundation has awarded 106 scholarships worth over $220,000 providing specialized, technical training to those who may not have the ability to afford this opportunity otherwise.

With the LiFT scholarship program, the foundation selects a cohort of individuals that represent the future of software development and those who will utilize this opportunity to give back to not only the broader open source community, but also their local communities.

The Linux Foundation supports the creation of sustainable open source ecosystems by providing financial and intellectual resources, infrastructure, services, events, and training. Working together, The Linux Foundation and its projects form the most ambitious and successful investment in the creation of shared technology.

Scholarship programs such as LiFT showcase the unlimited opportunities a single person can unlock for themselves and other aspiring developers when given access to do so.

The Linux Foundation is hosting The Linux Foundation Training (LiFT) Scholarship Program to provide opportunities to up-and-coming developers and sysadmins who show promise for helping shape the future of Linux and open source software but do not otherwise have the ability to attend training courses.

If you are into technology and computers, but unsure about a career path, open source and Linux are both wise focuses. While the job market cannot be predicted with absolute certainty, it is undeniable that both of those things are increasingly important.

The Linux-based Android is the most popular mobile operating system, while major companies like Microsoft, Google, and Apple embrace open source. The problem with education nowadays is the high cost.

Many people can’t afford to pay for classes out of pocket, and if they take out student loans, they can end up in debt for many years. Luckily, scholarships can help alleviate the stress of education costs.

If you want to experience formal learning of Linux, you should definitely apply. The training provides recipients with the tools they need to advance their career or get started in one of the most lucrative jobs in IT.

As part of the scholarship, recipients will have the option to select a Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS) or Linux Foundation Certified Engineer (LFCE) exam, allowing them to clearly demonstrate their skills to potential employers.

The Linux Foundation Certifications are widely recognized for being performance-based, distribution-flexible and available anytime, anywhere.

The Linux Foundation’s training program features courses developed and taught by expert instructors, many of whom are well-respected developers in the open source community. Together with a global network of Authorized Training Partners, they are able to deliver training in more classrooms around the world.

For those that aren’t quite ready to dive-in to the more advanced courses, they partnered with edX.org to offer over a dozen free online foundational courses in some of today’s most sought-after technologies, to make learning technology more accessible to all.
