The DBP Endowment for Education Program, or DEEP, is a product of a DBP milestone. The bank management decided to develop a 10 year scholarship program as a means to give back to society.
The program was envisioned as a way for DBP to support the Philippine Development Plan and the Millenium Development goals. The program was to be the bank’s contribution to the global initiative of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
A seed amounting to P1 billion was earmarked for DEEP to support 10 batches of scholars. Qualified and deserving high school graduates are given scholarships in DEEP accredited schools and assisted in finding employment opportunities after graduation.
The program operates under a “pay it forward” scheme, assisting low income families and financially challenged students in the hope that these students will also voluntarily lend their support to future DEEP scholars through the DEEP Scholars Association (DEEP SA).
Education is the singular road that should lead the less fortunate Filipino youth to the fulfillment of their dreams, such as having a happy family, a comfortable life and the education of his children.
DEEP grants financial assistance to deserving high school graduates who have academically done their best, but are economically unable to pursue their college education. Through the program, these deserving Filipinos are afforded the chance to not only complete their college studies, but also to have good paying jobs as well.
It is of great hope that these scholars will turn out to be productive citizens of the land who, after formerly receiving assistance, shall later on provide the same assistance to the next generation of less fortunate youths like themselves.
Now it can be said that dreams must not die for the Filipino youth whose desire to learn, achieve and be empowered is not obstructed by poverty.
