DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Programs | Philippine Scholarship

The DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI) opened its undergraduate scholarship programs, namely, RA 7687 and Merit, to senior high school students who wish to pursue four or five-year courses in science and technology (S&T) fields starting school year 2018-2019. Thousands of aspiring scientists and engineers will enter college with a Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST – SEI) scholarship stamp.

 

The S&T Undergraduate Scholarships Program aims to stimulate and entice talented Filipino youths to pursue lifetime productive careers in science and technology and ensure a steady, adequate supply of qualified S&T human resources which can steer the country towards national progress.

 

Republic Act No. 7687, also known as the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994”, provides for scholarships to talented and deserving students whose families’ socio-economic status do not exceed the set cut-off values of certain indicators. Qualifiers must pursue priority fields of study in the basic sciences, engineering, other applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching.

 

The DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program, formerly known as the NSDB or NSTA Scholarship under RA No. 2067, is awarded to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and are willing to pursue careers in the fields of science and technology.

 

The Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) Program aims to provide scholarships that will finance the education of talented and deserving students in their third year of college and who are pursuing degree programs in the areas of science and technology; and ensure a steady, adequate supply of qualified S&T human resources who can steer the country towards national progress.

 

 

Eligibility

To be eligible under the Merit program, the student applicant must be: natural-born Filipino citizen, member of the top five percent of the graduating class for non-Stem strand and all are eligible to apply under the Stem strand, of good moral character and good health, and qualifier of the 2018 S&T scholarship examination.

 

DOST-SEI’s most anticipated projects that aims to encourage the youth to get into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses.

 

Under RA 7687 program, he/she must also be poor, talented and deserving student who belongs to a family whose socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of certain indicators, and resident of the municipality for the last four years as attested by the barangay chairman.

Tuition fee subsidy

 

Book allowance

 

MS/ PE clothing allowance

 

One economy class roundtrip fare per year for those studying outside of their home province

 

Group accident insurance

 

 

The aspiring RA 7687 Scholarship Program scholars will receive subsidies on tuition and other school fees, as well as book allowance, monthly living allowance for 10 to 11 month duration every year and more.

 

DOST-SEI Merit scholars will also receive the same benefits as the RA 7687 scholars except for a pro-rated monthly stipend depending on the family’s socio-economic status.

 

Qualifiers can choose from among 71 science and engineering courses available, such as agribusiness management, medical technology, and marine biology.

Partner universities

The scholarship qualifiers must enroll in any of the University of the Philippines campus or in state universities and colleges or private higher education institutions recognized by the Commission on Higher Education as Centers of Excellence or Centers of Development or with the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines Level III accreditation for the S&T priority programs they will enroll in. After graduation

DOST – SEI scholars are required to render service in the country preferably along their fields of specialization after graduation for a period equivalent to the number of years they enjoyed the scholarship as a return service.

The scholarship qualifiers can enroll in state universities and colleges and other higher education institutions recognized by the Commission on Higher Education as Centers of Excellence or Centers of Development, wherein they can take up priority science and technology courses such as Agriculture, Agricultural Biotechnology; Agricultural Chemistry; Agricultural Engineering; Applied Mathematics; Applied Physics; Biochemistry; Biology; Ceramics Engineering; Chemistry with Applied Computer System; Chemistry with Materials Science and Engineering; Chemistry Engineering; Chemistry; Civil Engineering; Computer Engineering; Computer Science; Electrical Engineering; Electronics and Communications Engineering; Environmental Science; Fisheries; Food Technology; Forestry; Geology; Geodetic Engineering; Industrial Engineering; Information Technology; Manufacturing Engineering; Materials Engineering; Mathematics; Mechanical Engineering; Metallurgical Engineering; Mining Engineering; Molecular Biology and Biotechnology; Physics; Physics with Applied Computer System; Physics with Material Science and Engineering; Science/Mathematics Teaching and Statistics.

 

Qualifiers who avail of any of the S&T undergraduate scholarships may pursue a four- or five-year college degree in priority science and technology fields. As benefits, RA 7687 scholars will receive tuition subsidy, monthly stipend, book allowance and many more. Scholars under the Merit scholarship program will likewise receive the same benefits except for the pro-rated monthly stipend based on the family’s socio-economic status.
