Fluor – Metrobank College Scholarship

In 2010, Fluor Daniels, tied up with Metrobank Foundation to provide scholarship grants to second year Engineering students of chosen schools. This is a 4 year grant giving a full academic assistance and allowances. Flour believes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education is the foundation of a student’s success.

 

There are 25 scholarship grants available each year. The priority course is BS Engineering of any field, but the scholarship is given to those who are already in their 2nd year college.

Eligibility

Must be a first year engineering student of any field.

 

With cumulative high school grade point average not lower than 85%. Must present the certified true copy Form 137 or a photocopy of the high school card during fourth year.

 

With total annual family income not exceeding P250,000 for a family of 5. Must present the latest income tax return or when not applicable, an affidavit stating information about the sources and amount of income and number of family members.

 

Filipino citizen.

 

Not concurrently a recipient of any major scholarship or financial aid, including pre-need educational plans.

 

Physically fit.

Accomplish the MBFI application form, which can be secured from the College of Engineering (for AdU, TUP, UE, UP), Scholarship Office for DBTC, and Office of the Student Affairs for UST.

 

Certified true copy of birth certificate.

 

Transcript of records of the previous years in college.

 

Latest income tax return (ITR).

 

Certificate of enrollment or registration.

 

Notarized affidavit certifying that the applicant is not a recipient of any major scholarship or financial aid.

 

Medical certificate from a qualified physician stating you are physically fit.

 

Good moral character certification from the high school principal or by a competent authority of the school.

 

Certification stating awards received in both academic, extra, and co-curricular activities in high school issued by the school principal.

Process

The school prescreens the applicants and those who are qualified will be endorsed to the Foundation for the final selection process. Scholars will be selected based on the following

  • Paper evaluation of credentials
  • Examination (essay)
  • Interview

 

 

Your responsibility as a scholar

To retain the scholarship you must maintain a semestral grade point average not lower than 85% or its equivalent with no failing grades.

 

Must not drop any subject nor cancel their enrollment for the period during which they enjoy the scholarship.

 

Must carry the full semestral load as prescribed by the respective scholar’s department or program adviser.

 

Must not enjoy major financial assistance, grant or scholarship from other external sources.

 

Must not accept any kind of employment while on scholarship, so you can devote full time to your studies.

 

Must actively participate in the community service projects of MBFI and / or Fluor during semestral breaks, summer vacation and Christmas season, or special major events.

While the SM scholarship program supports 1,500 scholars every year, regular SM college scholars were enrolled in over 80 partner colleges and universities nationwide. Yearly, the foundation welcomes a new batch of scholars to fill in the slots left by scholar graduates.

 

The SM Foundation will honor its commitment to assist financially-constrained students with their education by strengthening its Technical-Vocational Scholarship Program.  Its longtime partnership with Don Bosco Makati Technical Institute has afforded training for those inclined to pursue technical/vocational courses including out-of-school youths.

 

The TVET Center at Don Bosco is a school for the poor and out of school youth offering a 15-month vocational training in Automotive Technology, Fitter Mechanist Technology, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning and Electrical mechanical Technology.  The courses involve 10 months of classroom lectures and hands-on training after which the students go on an on-the-job training at partner companies.

 

The importance of technical/vocational programs is undeniable.  Under the Senior High School curriculum Industrial Arts Strand is the Technical-Vocational-Track.  With acquired skills, Senior High School students thus become employable as soon as they graduate.

 

It also addresses the unemployment problem partly because of the lack of skills among those in the labor force. Gone is the traditional attitude towards technical and vocational work. A greater respect for the blue-collar worker now exists.

Ajinomoto Post Graduate Studies Scholarship Financial Assistance

The Ajinomoto Post Graduate Scholarship Grant provides financial assistance to deserving Filipino students who are interested in pursuing continuing education. The grant gives a full scholarship in one of the graduate schools in the field of science and technology at the University of Tokyo, Japan. Only 1 student from each of the 6 countries of Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, and Russia.

 

If the recipient enrolls as a research student, scholarship shall be provided for a maximum of 3 years (1 year as a research student and maximum of 2 years as a master’s course student). The scholarship will be suspended if the recipient fails to pass the entrance exam for a master’s course within a year after arriving in Japan.

 

If the recipient enrolls as a master’s course student, the scholarship shall be provided for a maximum of 2 years. The applicant can enroll either as a research student first or directly as a master’s course student in one of the courses, except medicine and veterinary medicine, of the graduate schools of the University of Tokyo.

 

Courses: Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Engineering, Information Science and Technology, Agricultural and Life Science, Interdisciplinary Information Studies, Frontier Science, Mathematical Science, and ITASIA.

The JJWBGSP scholarship provides tuition, a monthly living stipend, round trip airfare, health insurance, and travel allowance plus the following benefits

  • Economy class air travel between your home country and the host university at the start of your study program and immediately following the end of the scholarship period. In addition to the two way air travel, scholars will receive a US$500 travel allowance for each trip.

Robert S. McNamara Fellowship Program (RSMFP)

The Robert S. McNamara Fellowship Program has enabled PhD candidates from developing countries to undertake research at institutions abroad. RSMFP provides up to $25,000 (U.S.) for developing country nationals to travel abroad to conduct development-related PhD research under the supervision of a host advisor at a university, research or development institution in a World Bank member country.

 

Scholarship covers a 6 to 10 month period. Details on eligible expenditures is provided in the Application Guidelines. The Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program provides support to young researchers working in academic and research institutions from eligible countries preparing a doctoral dissertation.

 

Two qualified reviewers independently review each eligible application to assess the following

1) Quality of the proposed fellowship (70%)

2) Prospects for a productive career in research post-PhD (30%)

Harvard University Scholarship Grants

Harvard University has a number of programs for international students planning to study at Harvard graduate and professional schools. If you are from the Philippines, you can apply for either the Ayala Scholarship Fund or the Eugenio Lopez Scholarship Fund. These fellowships support the citizens of the Philippines who intend to enroll in graduate degree programs.

 

Candidates must have the financial need as determined by the Harvard school in which they plan to enroll. Candidates may not apply directly to CGS for this support, as they must be nominated for consideration by the Harvard school in which they plan to enroll.

 

Students should make their eligibility known to their financial aid office, which will be part of your financial aid application to the school. Prospective graduate students should contact the Admissions and Financial Aid Office of the particular Harvard graduate or professional school of interest to them.

 

The CGS and its sub-committees meet regularly throughout the year to review applications and determine scholarship and fellowship awards. Specific deadlines and timelines are posted within the guidelines of individual programs.

 

The scholarship awards are based upon several factors, including the scale of the scholarship program, the amount of funds available each year, and the number of students deemed eligible for each scholarship. Many scholarships also consider the financial need of each eligible candidate.

 

A CGS scholarship rarely covers a student’s full costs for an entire academic year. The students do not submit documentation directly to the Committee on General Scholarships. Documentation should be submitted to the Financial Aid Office of the school in which you plan to enroll, according to that office’s policy and procedures.

 

 

US education

Do you think you have what it takes to make it to Harvard? If you do, go for it then and send in your application before the year ends. Don’t worry about the cost. It offers an option to help you finance your education.

 

Standardized Achievement Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) scores, while required, would not really affect your chances of getting into any of the three universities.

 

The high school records and good performance are more likely to boost your chances of getting into Harvard regardless of where you come from. They look at your experience within the context of your high school.

 

A waiver of the application fees may also be requested. The guidance counselor of applicant may use an official form or write a short letter asking Harvard to waive the fee.

Harvard is one of the few US universities that has a need-blind admission policy. The university does not consider the applicant’s ability to pay when it decides to offer him or her a place in the university. And when admitted to Harvard, an international student may get equal access to financial aid as an American.

 

At this school, more than 70% of the students receive some form of financial aid, 20% of the students pay nothing and 100% graduate debt free.

 

Parents with an income of less than $65,000 (P3.04 million) were not expected to pay for their child’s education, while those with incomes between $65,000 and $150,000 (P3.04-7.02 million) pay 0 to 10% of their income.

 

Harvard creates an individualized aid package to meet a student’s need. The package may include scholarships, outside rewards, loans and jobs in university institutions, including libraries, museums and cafeterias. Two-thirds of the students work during the academic year.

Ayala Foundation Scholarship

The Ayala Foundation focused on primary education, which includes kindergarten through grade six. CENTEX is a public school learning environment where bright children from economically advantaged families receive quality education and the necessary support to give them the opportunity of a better life. CENTEX in Manila started in 1998, while the CENTEX in Batangas started in 2000.

 

The CENTEX operates in two public schools. One is located in Tondo, Manila. The other school is located in Bauan, Batangas. The schools operate by virtue of a Memorandum of Agreement between the Department of Education and the Ayala Foundation Inc.

 

The Ayala Foundation started the Global Filipino Schools (GFS) in 2015 with program partners Globe Telecom, Department of Education, Local Government Units, and private donors Chevron, Mitsubishi, Huawei. The GFS empowers schools to become 21st century ready educational institutions by providing them with support systems that meet UNESCO standards. The program includes sustainable ICT proficiency training for teachers, an ICT equipped school environment and committed stakeholders.

 

 

More about CENTEX

CENTEX gives students the opportunity not only in academics, but also in developing their talents in the arts, particularly in music and dance. Through the after hours art program, the students excel not only in academics, but also in the other areas of learning and development.

 

Founded in 1998, the CENTEX has two campuses. One is located in Tondo, Manila and the other is in Bauan, Batangas. Aside from these two schools, the program also trained over 800 teachers from 20 public elementary schools across the country, thus bringing the CENTEX education model across the country.

 

CENTEX is a project of the Ayala Foundation in partnership with the DepEd, other corporate sponsors and local government units that aim to provide the economically disadvantaged children a primary education comparable to that of the best schools in the country.

 

CENTEX is a public school that combines DepEd curriculum with special subjects, such as music, self-esteem and computer arts to ensure full development of the child. CENTEX implements an enhanced education curriculum that emphasizes language, math, science, values, environment and being a Filipino.

 

Music, Computer Language Arts (CLA) and Self-Esteem are special subjects from kindergarten to Grade 6 as it promotes the holistic development of children. According to studies, children who are exposed to the arts do better in school.

 

The values from these activities, like precision and persistence, are carried over to the academics, this improving the student’s performance. There is a very strong correlation with the success of the students with their exposure to music, the arts and sports.

Now on its 15th year, CENTEX is in partnership with Casa San Miguel and Steps Dance Studio who provides the art and music training of the students. With one teacher for every 25 students, having a small class size gives the teachers the opportunity to focus more on the student’s learning.

 

The College of the Holy Spirit of Manila (CHSM) and CENTEX have formed a partnership to provide high school education to the graduating students of CENTEX.

 

Over the years, the foundation has worked in various fields of development, from science and technology research to vocational education to social consortium building. It has chosen a strategic, integrated and sustainable approach to poverty alleviation by focusing on the needs and aspirations of specific communities.

TechVoc Education

The foundation also supports Special Science and Technical Vocational Education. In partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), the Aboitiz Foundation developed the Special Science Elementary Schools (SSES) and Technical-Vocational (TechVoc) high schools.

 

The SSES aligns with the government’s call for science-based skills specialization among young students because a strong foundation in the sciences is regarded as one of the building blocks of a progressive economy.

 

The SSES curriculum is enriched Mathematics and Science studies, and gives longer teaching time for Science. Teachers are trained in specialized courses in math and the sciences.

 

The SSES students are given laboratory rooms, science apparatuses, and equipment, ICT-based learning resources, as well as science, math, english textbooks, and supplementary materials.

Tech-Voc offers an alternative solution to help about 80% of high school students who don’t have the means to pursue a college education. It will also aid the government’s K to 12 program by teaching skills that are viable for employment or for part-time work to support further studies.

 

Aside from newly constructed or refurbished workshop rooms, Tech-Voc students are given reference books, tools, and equipment. Tech-Voc teachers receive training for NCII certification.
